We have added a new feature to the Learning Center – predefined Lesson Sets. Lesson Sets are 16 lesson courses for Beginner level learners. Lesson Sets are designed to solve a particular problem. The first two lesson sets we have added are Business and Travel. Find the Lesson Set you want to study (only two available at the moment) and click to add to My Course.

Why provide set courses?

We realized early on that many of our users share similar motivations for learning Mandarin. We hope Lesson Sets will help new learners find the language they need when they need it – now! After you have added a Lesson Set to My Course you can add and remove lesson pods to personalize your study program. So if you are a Beginner level learner or curious by nature give our Lesson Sets a try and please do send us your feedback.

Kind Regards,

Matt Park 段伟

Very good idea! What about a ‘Beginners trail’, say 10 to 20 lessons at newbie level that are essential to kick off your Chinese studies?

Yes, that one is in the works along with others! This is going to be a really cool feature I think.

When you add a set though it kind of gets messed up with everything else. I think My Course needs an option to add custom categories.
What’s the difference between current and archived as well? And why are deleted ones still saved?

Marc,
Yes. A general beginners Set Course makes sense. We will definitely put one together. There are now 90 Newbie level lesson pods avaiable on ChinesePod.com. I am sure we can put together something interesting.

Bazza,
The My Course feature is about 1 month old and has already been upgraded. More upgrades are planned including some that will make it easier to stay organized. Custom categories are an excellent idea. Got any other suggestions? The RSS and PDF Zip file run off the lesson pods in the Current view. Other views like Archive and Delete let you store or remove lesson pods you have added to My Course. We have looked at how Gmail works for inspiration.

Antonio,
Happy to hear you are enjoying the new Set Course feature. The entire website is constantly being improved. And more learning center features are being planned.

Kind Regards,

Matt Park

Any chance that you guys could open up this new functionality to the Basic subscribers on a trial basis. As it stands, unsubscribed users can check it out, but Basic subscribers can’t.

Thanks!

Good point Brendan, we’ll add something to the sales page that allows people to sample a lesson plan. We’ll get that up within the week.

Wow. You guys really do listen. I feel so special! :-)

Just noticed this comment from a month ago and realized we put the sample up, but never told you where you can find it! Sorry! It’s here: http://www.chinesepod.com/about_the_podcast_archive.php

SPAM – Is that flood of spam Rian’s little way of saying, ‘ya gonna miss me’? Maybe he’s making a play for a nice ‘fully paid’ position? Sneaky interns, turn off his IM!
