While we’re on the subject of books, here’s a San Francisco based book distributor that has specialized in China-related stuff since 1960. They’ve got a wide selection of publications to choose from.

China Books does a great job of offering a large varity of books. Some of them are reasonably priced and some are not when compared to the original price in China. But I guess it is still less expensive and time consuming to buy a book here in the States than to fly to China to buy it.

Actually I tend to go to Sayoda in North Beach first – they have an eclectic mix of stuff and most of it is in the $1-2 dollar range. They’re located next to the Washbag…

SUPER GRAMMAR – This is probably the best new grammar book out there, it was newly published in 2006.

-All the examples are presented in simplified, complex, pinyin and correct English.

-It actually has an excellent pre-chapter on “English” grammar, in other words in plain English it explains to those of us that don’t know, what a ‘clause’ is. It does this with Chinese examples, so it’s not like reading Strunk and White.

-It covers beginner to intermediate grammar, very comprehensive. As an intermediate, I found I did already know all the content for the most part, I just wish I had had the book around earlier to make my studies quicker and easier.

-It presents the ‘structure’ of a Chinese sentence earlier on. Few Chinese published books explain it so clearly.

-The best since
