Hello! I’m Colleen, the newest addition to the ChinesePod team.

And yes, I’m Canadian.

So from now on things might get mighty confusing with Colleen and Eileen around here, but perhaps, with time, you could learn to love us both.

In short, I just graduated from Uni in Canada (business school) and I am here to brush up on my Chinese, get some cool work experience and generally escape home for a while. Unlike many of my fellow graduates who took off to Asia teach English, I bucked the trend and am working at a Chinese teaching company. I spent last year kicking around China on exchange (Beijing) and then working (Chongqing), but I am still a relative China virgin compared to most of the people here at ChinesePod.

I have also recently developed this terrible addiction to Korean Soap Operas, which is taking up the majority of my spare time lately.

I’ll be answering all your emails, taking show suggestions and being as cool and breezy as I can at the same time.

Shanghai and ChinesePod seem to be a great places, so it should be a fun four months.

-Colleen

Welcome I understand your affliction to Korean Soaps. Well sort of , I spend most of my time watching the female leads. Which show or shows are you watching?

Don’t worry about Eileen we already love her so we can focus on getting to love you while maintaining our love for all the CPod HQ women. For some reason either the CPod HQ men don’t get this love or the female Poddies are shy.

Welcome! What is your role within CPOD?

James Theron September 13, 2006 at 6:49 pm

Mike,

What do you mean? Aric gets lots of attention. He didn’t obtain the most commented post without all our attention.

James Theron September 13, 2006 at 6:50 pm

And yes… Welcome Colleen! I didn’t mean to leave you out.

James,

A sore toe gets a lot of attention as well but not love.

“or the femail poddies are shy” or there’s a lot less of us than the guys. I would speculate about this, I mean, why should learning Chinese appeal primarily to men, but I think I already know the answer. I’m also newly addicted to Asian soap operas, what are the good ones?

Welcome, Colleen! Thanks for your help with the gift option on my friend’s birthday. You’ve already got a fan in me. :-)

Wow, what are the good korean soaps? hmmm where do i start, Id say a good ‘intro’ is full house starring superstar rain, then, a more ‘experienced’ watcher could go on to ‘lovers in paris’ or the big mama of all korean soaps Jewel in the Palace (of which Hu Jintao is a fan), however, its a whopping 48 hours long so you need to know what you are getting yourselves into:)

Half the fun is going online and looking for before and after pictures of the female leads, quite the plastic surgery transformations on most of them ;)

In response to the male/female thing, I think the majority of chinesepod users are actaully male for some reason, no idea why. Chinese is cool, women are cool, it just makes sense that we’d want to learn chinese, oh well.

I am not sure what my role is here yet, intern includes doing sales stuff, marketing, customer service, maybe i’ll find some really great area to go into thats yet unknown:)

Thanks for the warm welcome:)

ChinesePod just keeps hiring all these naturally charming women. What can a regular guy do??

Art Kho 许冠俊 September 15, 2006 at 10:07 am

John,

A regular guy like you gets to hang out with the charming CPod women. You have nothing to complain about! ;-)

Hi Colleen and Ellen, I’m just gonna say ‘len from now on!

1. How about collapsing the blog catagories into a few less, it takes up a lot of screen space right now and I can’t really see the difference between Q&A and support for example.

2. Anybody digging out stuff from the spam filter? I posted yesterday and got filtered…

3. Can ‘len look at the spam filter settings from the previous blog installation and apply them to this new blog, it’s being picky.

Lantian September 15, 2006 at 10:20 am

Hi Art,

I beg to differ, JohnP is highly ‘irregular’.

Eileen September 15, 2006 at 10:58 am

Hi Lantian,

Team ‘leen to the rescue! hehe…

I’ll take note of your blog discussioons and take it up with management. We’ll see what we can do. And don’t worry, I’ll go into our spam filter and see what I can dig up in there! :D

Thanks for the titles, Colleen, that should keep me busy for months. Have you seen Princess Lulu? It seems to be a hit with the crowd who liked Prince Who Turns into a Frog…

Colleen September 15, 2006 at 2:07 pm

Sure haven’t seen it! But I’m still in the throes of Jewel in the Palace.

I’ll put it in the list;)

The problem is, I’m supposed to be spending my spare time studying Chinese, or doing other productive things, so maybe I shouldn’t be starting a list at all, haha.
