For some time I’ve felt that the ChinesePod logo should go. To be honest, it’s not very clear. Does it say ‘pod‘? or ‘Dod‘? Meanwhile, the character for ‘zhong‘ is not much use if you don’t know Chinese. Imagine if you came across the log for the first time – I’ll bet you wouldn’t be able to figure out what it is.
Which is obviously not good. I’d like to change it. I went to the designers and they came up with some options. I’d like to share them with you and get your feedback.
You can see them below. I’ve tried to stay loyal to the original feel, but with the added clarity. What do you think? Am I way off the mark here? Which of the three is best? Your thoughts?
If you have a radically different idea and can format it, feel free to send it along. I’m open to persuasion.
Update:
We’re not the only ones revamping our logo, though we won’t go to the same lengths to promote it as these guys.

what do Google, Yahoo, Microsoft, Sun, IBM, Lenova, and IBM have in common ? they are all major participants in the new internet economy, and they all have their name written out in english in their logos.
what do the largest language training companies on earth, like Rosetta Stone, Berlitz, Pimsleur, New Oriental, and Wall Street Institute have in common ? logos with their name written out in them.
Chinese Pod wants to grow the business and grow the brand. Adding the words to the logo is a business no-brainer. I don’t understand the pushback levels here. Bigger brand + higher brand recognition = more customers = more revenue = a better CPod experience for customers
Nike, McDonalds, Adidas and Apple all have an image rather than words.
Sure many use words of their name successfully, but not plain unkerned Helvetica typed horizontally. The words have to be distinctive and artistic themselves if they’re part of the artwork.
I think all 3 designs are nice. If you want the words clearer than perhaps number 2 would probably do that for you. however, the logo is more than just the words. What makes your logo highly recognizable is the cough drop shaped design, the chinese character in the left hand corner, and the color, so when you see it the brain automatically associates that with Chinesepod, it does not require alot of focus. Unless you want to slide in somehow the phrase “Mandarin on your terms.”.

You guys are doing a wonderful job, keep it up
#3
Good luck with the choice ahead of you. I’m looking forward to my mug becoming a collector’s item, which I can sell to CPod fans on EBay.
Of the three I like #1 the best. But I like the original font best of all; can you spell out ChinesePod in that font? It is way cooler than the fonts of the alternatives.
and the rectangular proportions of the original logo are way closer to the golden mean, another reason why the ring-ins look daggy in comparison
I see no one voting for #3. I’ll do. The reason is that all logos are a bit unbalanced. Do not reflect much harmony. The 3d does as the chinesepod word line is more centered as the case is a bit lower.
3 is harmony
Nobody liked my Panda bear idea. Well, I am just gonna curl up and chew on some shoots, I am not performing today…
Good stuff. I write more if I’ll have more time. Great site!
It’s my first time to be here. Hello, everyone!
As I see it, there is no much differece among the three logos. If a choice must made I think the third one is the best, because the English words just match the Chinese character well in terms of style and thickness.
If a radical change is possible, I suggest that the Chinese character “中” be changed into something else, because japanese and Korean also use Chinese characters. If you really prefer Chinese a character, you can still use the “中”,but use it in the pictograph style insted, which has nothing to do with Japanese and Korean, and morever it will make your logo more intersting and imprssive.
If I were you, I would use a kind of image, an image which is quickly associated with China and also well-known to non-Chinese speakers, such as an image of the Tian’an Men Square, or “华表”,the two white stone poles with carvings in front of the Tian’an Men Square, or a panda , or a Chinese dragon.
whatever happened to the logo redesign project, I can’t even seem to find those we could use on our own websites?
