Hi
It’s great to hear you’ re extending the pod expertise to Spanish; I’ve seen no comment on possibly extending it to Italian! Must say i’ve searched for similar teaching sites but none was satisfying..
any insight?
and thanks for the tremendous work and energy you’re putting in Chinesepod; i’ve discovered it this summer and enjoy it very much :) very useful and complementary to classical Chinese courses

Take heart, Dao … I see someone has recently registered “ItalianPod.com”. And surely you’ve seen http://www.learnitalianpod.com ?

I feel obligated to take up a bit of Spanish. I’m not particularly driven to learn it, but it would be pragmatic to at least get a handle on the basics. My town’s had a steady influx of Mexican immigrants; my corner grocery store is staffed by a majority of people who really only speak Spanish. I’ve discovered that the butcher there prepares special meals — but the only people aware of them are those that can read the Spanish placard on the wall. I’m chowing down on “carnitas” as I type.

Necessity is a nice motivator.

I’d be up for that. I live 9 miles from the US-Mexico Border. As a result I am surrounded by a bilingual world. I have a basic understanding but I’d love to have more. I could start out in Elementary and peak into Intermediate in a SpanishPod.

Tempting. Except I’m not really a native speaker, and I only have a little teaching experience. And I’m half way through a PhD. Otherwise, I’d reckon it’s a great job.

Hey Ken, while we have you on the line…What ever happened to the SpanishPod project? Did it take a back seat or was it put on the back burner or did it fall off the back of the truck? How about an update? How is Maria doing? I have a suggestion. Why don’t you import Antonio to work on the project and give her a hand. He is my Spanish guru. His knowledge of Spanish is very international in scope. I think he would make an excellent addition to your staff. I would even bet that he would love to do it.

Well, I can see that the site is up http://www.spanishsense.com/ but when I tried to register it wouldn’t let me. I suppose we are not quite ready for the grand opening. I’ve got to say one thing though. The site looks pretty nice and so does Maria Massarini!

Ken Carroll March 27, 2007 at 8:03 am

Hey Bob,

Yes, we’re just putting the final touches to SpanishSense and it will go beta soon. Have no fear we’ll let everyone know about it when that happens.
