ChinesePod’s New Search

As requested on UserVoice by ChinesePod users, we completed some new functionality to help you find lessons more efficiently. The most obvious change is in the appearance of the ubiquitous search field in the top right corner of the header:

old search, new search

Previously the search function attempted to cover everything, resulting in tricky indexing and a confusing search results page. Now the default is to search for “Lessons,” but users can also select “Glossary” from the dropdown menu (and later “Community” will be added as well).

The default lesson search only searches lesson titles and lesson IDs, however. If the search results are too few, users can click on “expand search” and add other fields to the scope of the search.

Improved search was the early leader on UserVoice, and we’re happy to have quickly adjusted our priorities accordingly. All feedback is welcome.

Update: User calkins has reported a problem with topic and function tags apparently not being counted in search results. Our tech team is on the case.
